Upcoming: Borders

Tuesday 20th July from 6.30pm-7.30pm.

Popular discourse is filled with references to the borders that we live in or around: identity borders, national borders, contact zones and scientific frontiers. Join us as Seph Rodney discusses with Kathleen Pullum how borders fundamentally structure the world.

Upcoming: Inside the Bedroom

Our next show, coming up on Tuesday 13th July at 6.30pm, features the author and journalist Bidisha and Nicky Falkof. They will join Seph Rodney in a discussion about sex, contemporary culture, and the rhetoric of what women and men are supposed to be and do. We hope you can join us. Further details on the speakers are here.

Upcoming: Outside the City

We’ll be taking a break next week, because the Resonance studios are closed for repairs.

But we’ll be back on Tuesday 6th July, with a programme discussing the non-metropolitan. Join us and our guests Ysanne Holt, Rosemary Shirley and Helena Bonett for Outside the City.

Upcoming: Inside the Body

Historically the only way to see inside the human body was after death, during an autopsy. Since the late 70s, technologies such as MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) allow for non-invasive imaging and even researching the workings of the living brain. How do changing ways of viewing our anatomies affect scientific research and understandings of humanity? And what understandings of the inside might other modalities, beside vision, offer us?

Join us next Tuesday 22nd June at 18.30 for Inside the Body,  featuring medical historian Ruth Richardson, neuroscientist Geraint Rees, and anthropologist Tom Rice.

A few words about being Inside

For this series, we have for the first time attempted to produce a set of conversations around a particular theme.  The connective tissue we have devised is the idea of ‘Inside‘.

Clearly, this term easily suggests the oppositional, but what excited us was rather the suggestion of being within: we want to get inside a variety of questions, systems of knowledge, continents, rubrics, intimacies and problems because that is where a deeper engagement with our common culture can begin.  We would like you to be in the room with us throughout this series.  Please join us.

Upcoming: Inside Job

Crime film and fiction both evince a consistent fascination with the inside job, or the criminal as an outsider. This show considers what the inside motivations of criminality may be, and how the insider/ousider dialectic helps us understand the ramifications of criminal behaviour.

Join us next Tuesday 15th June at 18.30 for Inside Job,  featuring the novelist Jake Arnott.

New Season of Shows

The Thread will be broadcasting its new 8-week season of shows, themed around ‘Inside’, from this Tuesday 1st June.

The first show, Inside Code, will feature guest speakers Lane DeNicola and Daniel Rourke.

It will be broadcast live from 6.30-7.30pm on Resonance fm. Full details of the first show are here.
